You can only stand your ground against the devil and win if you put the full armor of God. What does this mean and how to do it. Apostle Paul teaches us 9 components in his letter to Ephesians (6:10-18).
The Spiritual Warfare
This life is a spiritual warfare. For number of reasons the devil fights against your life and wants to deceive you from the truth and life of God on any occasions. Mostly he does this through your thoughts and desires. He wants to divert your attention from what is eternal toward what is temporary. This is the greatest deception. This is why people around us prefer temporary values and ignore eternal values, such as selfless love and life in the Kingdom of God. To win this spiritual warfare you must walk in the Spirit.
To win this battle and come out of it victoriously, Apostle Paul calls us to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Eph. 6:11-12)
How Do We Stand Firm
Continue reading the 6th chapter of Apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians until verse 18 and you will see that St. Paul teaches us nine specific points about the full armor of God. With the help of God you can and will stand firm “when the day of evil comes” and if you do “everything” the Apostle discusses below. Thus, stand firms against the evil:
- with the belt of truth buckled around your waist
- with the breastplate of righteousness in place
- with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
- take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one
- Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
- pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests
- keep these in mind
- be alert
- always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people
Dear reader. Keep your eyes, thoughts and desires on the love of God and to be united with him in his Kingdom. This is the only eternal and never-ending value you can ever have. The rest of the values are temporary. Even knowledge will end (1 Corinthians 13:8). To live in the Kingdom of God, united with our Lord, is the highest dream anyone can have. If you are a treasure seeker, this is the biggest treasure you can find, for which it’s worth to sell all you have, to buy this field. If you are a merchant, this is the most expensive pearl. This is why the Lord said, “but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matt. 6:33
If you love God with all your faculties (heart, mind, soul, strength) and your neighbor like yourself and put on the full armor of God, you will never lose. You will always win with God. Otherwise if you do not put the full armor of God, listen to what our Lord Jesus says. “But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder. He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.” (Luke 11:22-23)
Stand your ground against evil days. Gather with Jesus. And win life.
