The task of the Christian life is liberation from sin. But the path to freedom begins with the awareness of our slavery. Otherwise liberation from what?
Liberation from sin is freedom from pride, freedom from gluttony, freedom from obesity, freedom from hatred, freedom from unforgiveness, freedom from gossiping, freedom from egoism, freedom from lying and deception. It’s freedom from own self-centered thoughts.
How Evil Wages War Against You
Evil wages war against us primarily through thoughts. When our thoughts are self-centered, spiritual death begins. It may not seem harmful at first, but it is. Remove self-centered thoughts and start loving your neighbor, the person next to you, you wife or husband, your family members, your children, the people in your neighborhood and everyone. They are all the children of the same God whom you and I call Our Father in Heaven.
How We Are Freed
When our Lord Jesus told people about freedom from sin and liberation, they thought they are already free. But Jesus showed the way in the following words. “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Matt. 8:31-32
No matter what you are going through, God is as near as your breath and willing to help you to accomplish the task of liberation once you say Amen, once you agree to His will and once you turn to him and put your heart and thoughts on His Word. Separation and freedom from sin, puts you on the way to union with God because of the promise so that “you may participate in the divine nature.” 2 Peter 1:4
