Genesis 3 is so revealing on how the devil tempts us to make wrong decisions. As a result we disobey God and thus, harm our our selves.
He Strikes Up a Conversation
“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?,” said the serpent to the woman? You see, how craft and deceiving he is? He didn’t approach her with a scary look you see in movies, telling her about his evil intentions. Instead, he struck up a very casual conversation with Eve, where nothing seemed apparently wrong.
Be careful of this. The devil is very cunning and crafty. Never enter a conversation with him, neither in your thoughts, nor in your heart. Occupy your mind and heart with thoughts about Jesus and you will be safe.
The Lie
The serpent (the devil) told the human beings that if they violate God’s commandment they “will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Gen. 3;6). Adam and Eve disobeyed God and didn’t even fill sorry about it when God gave them number of chances, by asking Adam and Eve questions. They did not become like God, but know what is good and evil. Has this at all worked well for us the humans?
He Shows Things That Are Pleasing
Eve saw that the tree “was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise” (Gen. 3;6). She ate it and gave some to her husband Adam. They both ate it.
Evil Desire Is To Build Paradise Without God
Man as a result, wanted to build a paradise without God. He was deceived, trapped and took an action to betray his Good Creator God and instead obeyed the devil. Have we succeeded building our own paradise without God? After so many thousands of years, today we are closer to another world war than the world probably was before 1914. Today there is more hunger and different forms of human slavery in the world than I have read ever to be in the history. Chaos, pride and lack of moral compass reign in the world and fill billions of hearts. Selfless love grows cold.
And this started with a simple conversation. The devil tempts us daily by starting a simple conversation with us and making himself comfortable in our thoughts and hearts. Resist it, and he will flee from you, teaches us apostle James in 4:7.
Time to Return
Dear reader, it’s time to return back to our Creator Father. Just like the prodigal son, who had refused his father’s love, left him and squandered his inheritance and returned with true repentance, we need to do the same. Repentance and return to our heavenly Father is the only way. There is no other path. While this is the only path, there is plenty of light and salvation on this path. God has come and is waiting for you to hug you, wrap his hands around you, kiss you and lift you up.
“The time has come,” our Lord Jesus said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15). The road to the Paradise and the invitation are open for those who want to repent and return back where they truly belong.
Peace and grace to you from our Lord.
